Lionsgate and London-based independent producer Nevision have signed an agreement to co-develop and produce brand new global drama series Oil.

Created and written by Alan Whiting (Wire in the Blood, Heartbeat, Kingdom) Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet (Vanity Fair, Sahara, Amazing Grace, Hannibal, Young Sherlock), the eight-hour series is a geo-political thriller set in the Middle East.

The creators of the show will also Executive Produce along with Lionsgate’s Creative Director UK TV Steve November (pictured) and Head of Development Sarah Conroy alongside Nevision’s Neil Zeiger and Sharon Bloom.

Filmed in the Gulf, Beirut, London and New York, Oil is an epic drama set in the Persian Gulf in the early 1970s. It’s billed as a “glamorous, seductive and hedonistic world of ex-pats. A powerful, displaced people in a foreign land they all but own and who consider the black gold under the desert is theirs to take. But what they don’t know is that they are sitting on a powder keg and it’s about to blow.”

Steve November said: “We are excited to be joining Nevision to tell this gripping and seductive story about the men and women who shaped the world as we know it now. Matthew, Mark, Alan, Neil & Sharon are a formidable creative team with all the vision and experience to bring this spectacular world to life.”

Neil Zeiger, Executive Producer at Nevision, added: “Lionsgate is the perfect partner for Nevision to develop and produce this series. Alan, Mark and Matthew have such a strong vision and we share Steve’s and Sarah’s enthusiasm for it. We very much look forward to working with them to bring the world of OIL to the screen.”
