Kurland appoints fact ent commissioners at Sky

Michele Kurland, Sky's head of Factual Entertainment, has appointed two commissioning editors, Lorraine Charker-Phillips and Charlotte Desai.

They will commission across the portfolio of Sky entertainment channels – Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living and Sky Arts.

Kurland been responsible for a raft of new content including the forthcoming Winners strand for Sky1, Styled To Rock and Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model for Sky Living and The Nation’s Best Am Dram for Sky Arts.

Charker-Phillips is a filmmaker and producer who series-directed One Born Every Minute  and was series director on season 2 of The Hotel. Her most recent project as series producer is the recently launched Jewish Mum of the Year for C4. She has been short-listed for a Grierson Award for her work on BBC2’s Grandchild of the Holocaust and has freelance produced and directed a wide variety of prime-time series and documentaries including films for Cutting Edge (C4), Modern Times (BBC2) and Wonderland (BBC2). Lorraine started her broadcasting career at Carlton TV where she won the Prix Cercom Award for her directing work on the Metroland film Shall We Dance?

Desai has producer and director credits for films for Wonderland (BBC2), the third season of The Apprentice, Junior Apprentice (series 2) and The Choir - Sing While You work.  Her 11 year tenure at the BBC saw her series produce When Michael Portillo Became a Single Mum for BBC2 and The Waiting Room for BBC4 and documentaries including Jerusalem: An Anthem for England, Trouble at the Top and Back to the Floor.

Michele Kurland will be speaking at the Popular Factual session at The Televisual Factual Festival this week.
