Lion Television managing director Jeremy Mills is to step down next Spring, 18 years after co-founding the company.

During his time at Lion TV, Mills has been the driving force behind shows such as Castaway, Paddington Green, and Playing It Straight.

More recently Mills has acted as a consultant in the US, Europe, Middle and Far East.  Before co-founding Lion TV in 1997 Mills was an executive producer at the BBC where he was credited with inventing the docusoap genre with shows such as Airport.

Mills said: “18 years after I co-founded Lion Television I have decided the time is right for me to explore new challenges.  I have been privileged to have the most inspiring partners anyone could wish for, and have been fortunate to work with some of the most creative people in the business, so it’s been a tough decision to make.  I am proud to leave with all our bases in London, Glasgow and New York in robust health.  Thank you to everyone at Lion for everything they’ve given me over many happy and rewarding years.”

His departure comes six months after Lion TV parent company All3Media was sold to Discovery Communications and Liberty Global.

Remaining Lion Television MDs, Nick Catliff, Richard Bradley and Shahana Meer added: “Jeremy was the driving force behind the founding of Lion Television. Throughout the 18 years that the company has existed he has been an inspiring creative leader, generous colleague and good friend. We'll all going to miss enormously but are looking forward to working with him on some exciting new projects in the future.”

Jane Turton, Managing Director, ALL3Media said: “An enormous thank you to Jeremy a fabulous producer who has helped to create a company that is world famous for the quality and breadth of its programme slate. He leaves Lion in very good hands and with a strong and exciting list of programmes."
