Vfx company Jellyfish Pictures is to launch an animation unit in Brixton next month.

Jellyfish chief executive Phil Dobree said that the new facility Jellyfish Animation would create 60 new jobs.

According to Dobree the expansion has come about as result of the UK vfx industry's ability to win more work following the recent revisions to the film tax credit rules.

These make it easier for films, high end dramas and big budget series to keep more vfx work in the UK.

The company is understood to have already begun work on a 52 part children’s series for a US broadcaster which will move down to Brixton from the company's central London office next month.

The company will be based at a 4,000 sq ft premises on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton.

The award-winning vfx firm is nominated for a Bafta craft award for its work on Natural History Museum Alive for Sky and BBC1's Dr Who: The Day of the Doctor.
