Apple has underlined its ambitions for television by hiring Jay Hunt as creative director for Europe.

The former chief creative officer of Channel 4 will start her new job at Apple’s Worldwide Video service in January.

She will be part of the international content development team reporting to Apple video chiefs Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg. The duo were poached from Sony Pictures Television in June.

Hunt left Channel 4 in September after seven years in the role. She had applied to be the broadcaster’s new CEO, but missed out to former Shine Group CEO Alex Mahon.

Hunt has also held senior roles at the BBC and Channel 5, and has a raft of credits to her name including Sherlock, Humans, the Paralympics, Black Mirror and Gogglebox. She was also instrumental in poaching Great British Bake Off for C4 from the BBC.

Apple has reportedly set aside  $1bn over the next year to make at least 10 TV shows.
