Hat Trick is pitching a sitcom to the BBC, starring Alison Steadman and called Grey Mates.

According to The Radio Times, the production company is recording a pilot of the show, which centres on three elderly couples who meet to socialise. Steadman describes her role as “chief organiser…the one who bosses everyone about and tells them what they are doing.”

Written by Richard Pinto (Fresh Meat, Goodness Gracious Me, The Armstrong & Miller Show), the sitcom is set in Norfolk. The non broadcast pilot will be filmed in Hunstanton and in the studio in September.

The pitch follows the success of BBC comedy drama Last Tango in Halifax about an older couple, written by Sally Wainwright.
