Halo upgrades with Object Matrix nearline storage

Soho facility Halo Post Production has complemented its Avid production platform with the integration of nearline object storage from Object Matrix.

Halo, whose credits include TV drama such as The Missing, features such as Paddington and audio post for Downton Abbey, recently acquired Hackenbacker Studios and is spread across a number of sites in the London area.

Reseller Altered Images supplied a 280 terabyte (usable), 10gigE connected MatrixStore cluster, Object Matrix hub servers providing SMB access, InterConnect for Avid Interplay Archiving, Move2 Xendata for deep LTO integration and MXFS for direct client access.

The aim of the installation was to ensure continuity of the business across all workflows and sites as Halo replaced its existing nearline storage platform.

Halo chief engineer Daniel Napier said: “As more content enters the facility from a growing client base we recognised the need to implement a tiered storage and integrated workflow strategy that meets the companies tactical and strategic requirements.

“Choosing a nearline storage platform to fit into our vision meant that it not only had to fit into our current working environment but also be able to scale inline with future requirements.”

MatrixStore is an intelligent and self-managing solution that can support multiple workflows which can be integrated into existing Avid based infrastructure including Avid Interplay.

Nick Pearce, co-founder, Object Matrix said: “More organisations are realising they require intelligent and integrated storage solutions over more limited generic SAN or NAS solutions.”

Established in 2003, Object Matrix is a software company based in Cardiff.

MatrixStore has been used in production since 2006 by broadcast, production, VFX, post-production and creative agency customers.
