Wales' largest facility Gorilla is beefing up its new site at GloWorks in Cardiff with the installation of new Avid S6 control surfaces and Root6's ContentAgent automated file-based workflow management toolset.

The S6 installation by Scrub is part of the line up at two new dubbing suites at Gorilla's GloWorks facility, both with Dolby 5.1.

Gorilla has also created a third tracklay room and dubbing suite.

Other kit was supplied by local reseller Picture Exchange.

As part of the upgrade the facility, which is based on two sites in Cardiff, has created three new Avid Symphony suites with Baselight plugins as well as adding Avid ISIS 2500 providing another 320TB of storage at GloWorks.

Gorilla MD Rich Moss said that the company was now looking at adding high end 4K finishing tools to the technology line up, and building disaster recover systems across the company's two Cardiff sites.

The company has 40 edits at GloWorks creative industries centre at Porth Teigr in Cardiff Bay and 20 Media Composer V8 and 4 dubs at its Penarth Road facility in Cardiff, where the company also has studio facilities for S4C childrens programmes.

The upgrade at the GloWorks site next to the BBC Drama Village coincides with the move of  Gorilla's vfx, animation and motion graphics company Bait Studio to the site.

Bait Studio and Gorilla animation division Cloth Cat have taken over 3,500 square foot of space at GloWorks.

Gorilla MD Rich Moss said: “We have invested heavily in the AS-11 deliverable path. We have gone for the full ContentAgent system with in and out cards so we can playback files and view them on screen.”

“Because our work involves the delivery of distribution masters, ContentAgent's Insert Edit function is great as it means you can change and update AS-11 files without having to go through the entire review and recreation process.”

Root6's ContentAgent has proved popular since it was launched, with over 12 companies including  ITV, Lime Pictures, Dock 10, Splice and Directors Cut buying into the system.

Gorilla is handling an increasing amount of work in Cardiff, including shows such as C4's Posh Pawn from Boomerang and Ruth Jones drama Stella for Sky.

Animation division Cloth Cat makes Cbeebies' Boj and Grandpa in my Pocket and upcoming animated feature Ethel and Ernest funded through Pinewood's feature fund.
