All3Media is rumoured to be the subject of a possible acquisition by FremantleMedia.

According to a report from C21 Media, the two superindie groups are in discussions, with a price tag of over £500m on All3Media.

FremantleMedia is the smaller of the two groups in the UK, but on a global scale it is by far the bigger player.

Televisual's Production 100 for 2013 reported All3Media with a UK turnover of £277m, generated by its production houses including Company Pictures, Lion and Studio Lambert. While FremantleMedia UK, which includes indies Talkback, Boundless and Thames, had a turnover of £140m.

FremantleMedia has been looking to grow its business, both organically and with bolt-on acquisitions; the acquisition of All3Media would certainly constitute the latter, on a grand scale.

A spokesperson for the company said, "we don't comment on rumour or speculation."

But All3Media majority shareholder the venture capital group Permira is known to be happy to sell. It pulled out of a sale in 2011 when it became clear that no-one would pay near the advertised price of £750m.

In an interview with Televisual in 2013 All3's chief executive Farah Ramzan Golant said that selling the superindie was not an immediate plan, but added, “private equity is a pretty well documented model so at some point no doubt…”

Ramzan Golant has presided over a strong year for the group, bringing global revenue over the £500m mark.
