With less than a week to go, the Televisual Factual Festival has now confirmed the final line-up of speakers, which includes the UK’s top factual commissioners, together with world-class producers, directors and international executives.
The Festival takes place at BAFTA next Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th, bringing delegates bang up to date with the latest opportunities and production demands and solutions. Commissioners and senior executives from the BBC, Channel 5, Channel 4, ITV, Discovery, Sky, UKTV, A+E and National Geographic are joined by leading producers from over 20 of the most respected and fastest-growing indies.
Across the two days of sessions and networking, top TV commissioners in Daytime, Documentary, Specialist Factual and Factual Entertainment will be telling delegates what they really want and each revealing how they work, following the journey of shows that they have nurtured.
The Festival kicks off with a morning of Development Heaven, with the leading Factual Entertainment commissioners sharing stories of shows that they have seen through from inbox to screen. As we head into Studio Lambert’s tenth year, its ceo Stephen Lambert will be sharing the secrets of his shows successes in a frank conversation with producer and presenter Anna Richardson. This is followed by the Festival’s Development Masterclass, featuring four razor sharp development minds.
Demystifying SVoD commissioning, Figs Jackman head of development at Spring Films, will present the anatomy of a Netflix commission. Sky Vision managing director Jane Millichip chairs a panel on How to Grow Your Business Overseas and Creative Europe will present funding opportunities.
On day two, the BBC’s controller of Factual Commissioning Alison Kirkham will be in conversation with ITV Studios managing director Julian Bellamy. Facebook’s European head of Entertainment Media Partnerships will talk with co-panelists about gearing factual production to a new generation of TV viewers.
Double Oscar winner John Battsek will discuss Creating Compelling Stories in factual film-making, with 24 Hours in Custody mastermind Simon Ford and ITV Studios Entertainment md Angela Jain, in a session chaired by Kudos ceo Diederick Santer.
Top names in factual will debate how producers should handle the power that they hold in their hand and this year is the first time at the Festival that delegates will hear from the heads of Daytime commissioning, at the BBC and Channel 4.
Directors UK is hosting a session dedicated to working with contributors, with leading directors Ashok Prasad, Kirsty Cunningham and Sophie Robinson.
Adviser on new technology Muki Kulhan and Sky VR Studios technical director Richard Mills will give a low-down at the Festival’s Future Tech for Factual session.
