The international one-minute film festival Filminute, which started in 2006, is now open for entries for this year's competition. The initial stage of the competition runs until 20 August. During this stage, anyone can enter a 60-second film - it's free to enter - for the categories of fiction, animation, documentary and mash-up.

The films are then whittled down from what are expected to be thousands of international submissions to a list of 25 shortlisted entries.

The 25 shortlisted one-minute films are then voted for by a combination of a jury (which last year included American indie filmmaker Richard Linklater, Orange prizewinning writer Téa Obreht, and Grey New York President and Chief Creative Officer Tor Myhren) as well as a "global audience of filmmakers and film fans from over 125 countries."

“Filminute takes great pride each year in attracting talented filmmakers worldwide who are skilled in the art of storytelling and who are drawn to the challenge of creating entertaining, moving and provocative films that are exactly 60-seconds long,” says Festival Co-Founder and Executive Director John Ketchum.

Here are the 25 one-minute films shortlisted during last year's Filminute competition, including the winners of the various categories of Filminute.
