Oscar winning editor Lee Smith, ACE is to headline the upcoming American Cinema Editors’ day of panel sessions and interviews, EditFest London.

EditFest features panels comprised of the industry’s top editors, who share experiences and insights from their work on feature films, documentaries, and TV. EditFest returns to the UK for its 7th year in London and 6th at BFI Southbank on June 29th.

Smith’s credits span more than 40 films and television projects.  Hailing from Australia, he won an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award for Best Editing on Gregor Jordan’s Two Hands, on which he was also the sound designer. As a sound designer, he also won an AFI Award and earned a BAFTA Award nomination for his work on Jane Campion’s The Piano and won an AFI Award for Phillip Noyce’s Dead Calm.

His editing has earned Academy Award nominations (The Dark Knight, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,) and an Oscar for his work on Dunkirk. He has received numerous BAFTA nominations and key industry honours from American Cinema Editors, Broadcast Film Critics, Hollywood Professional Association awards, Satellite awards and Gold Derby awards among many other accolades.

Smith has had long collaborations with directors Christopher Nolan, Peter Weir and Sam Mendes.  In addition to Dunkirk, his work with Nolan includes Inception, The Prestige, Interstellar, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. His collaboration with Weir began on The Year of Living Dangerously as a co-editor and includes Fearless, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Way Back, and The Truman Show. He is currently at work on his second collaboration with Sam Mendes after Spectre, the period war drama 1917. Smith has guided a number of other notable films including Suicide Squad, Ender’s Game, X-Men: First Class and the upcoming Dark Phoenix.

EditFest London takes place during one day at BFI Southbank. In addition to the Conversation with Smith and Giardina, the day will include three other panels, soon to be announced.  Presented by American Cinema Editors (ACE), EditFest offers a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with panelists and colleagues throughout the day, over lunch, and then during a catered post-event reception. EditFest was launched in Los Angeles in 2008.
