Discovery orders three new series from Ballista & Twofour
05 October 2012
Discovery Networks Western Europe has ordered three new series to premiere on Discovery Channel in the UK.
With behind the scenes access to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the Well Travelled Clinics, six-part series Tropical Diseases (working title) from Twofour gives viewers a look into the global fight against tropical disease. The team of experts is responsible for treating the thousands of Britons who return from foreign lands with some of the deadliest diseases on earth.
In association with the Imperial War Museum in London and produced by Ballista, Dan Snow’s Battle of the Somme (1x120) draws upon newly restored Imperial War Museum footage of The Battle of Ancre and The Advance of the Tanks . Filmed in the midst of battle on the front-line, this silent film caused a sensation on its release in 1917.
Dan Snow returns for another new commission this autumn in Battle Castle with Dan Snow (6x60). Produced by Ballista and Parallax, the series will explore the military engineering behind medieval fortifications and the battles that tested their limits.
Returning British talent also includes modern-day treasure hunter Drew Pritchard and car traders Mike Brewer and Edd China. In the second series of Salvage Hunters (10x60), which is co-produced by Cineflix, the cameras follow Pritchard around the UK searching and buying antique items that he would restore and sell.
Wheeler Dealers returns in its 9th series transforming rundown classic cars, ready to sell on for a healthy profit.
