Channel 5 has commissioned a series of new documentaries for 2014 around the theme of love.

Commissioned by Simon Raikes, Guy Davies, Greg Barnett and Emma Westcott, the programmes include a special on young brides by Crackit and a two-parter from Lion on the love affair between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, fronted by historian Dr Suzannah Lipscomb.

Nine Lives is behind She's 78, he's 39: Age Gap Love and hour-long special Holiday Love Rats. Renegade is producing another single, Celebrity Wedding Planner.

The majority are co-produced with GroupM Entertainment.

Ben Frow, director of programmes Channel 5 said “We all need a little love in our lives and we thought it would be fun for Channel 5 to look at affairs of the heart in all sorts of ways. From the drama of one of the most famous couples in history through to the women who gambled and lost it all on a holiday romance, this is loves ups and downs done the Channel 5 way.”

The documentaries will air in the first quarter of 2014.

The baby faced brides are bucking the national trend of getting married later in life. The show meets 17-year-old teen mum Rebecca, so determined to marry that she’ll use what little money she has, 17-year-old Emmie who got engaged aged just 16 and 18-year-old Lauren, who is planning a lavish wedding while battling her mother, who doesn’t want her to get married so young. Getting married is a nerve racking time for anyone, but when you’re a hormonal teen then it’s a whole different ball game.

Historian Dr Suzannah Lipscomb unfolds the extraordinary story of the tumultuous love affair between Henry VIII  and Anne Boleyn, and asks if it was really love that brought them together and tore them apart. Using first-hand accounts from the time and visiting the places where Henry and Anne lived and stayed, the series delves into this passionate and volatile relationship, which would send a Queen to her death, amputate England from Europe and lead to hundreds of years of religious conflict.

This documentary tells the stories of Brits who have been completely duped by holiday love rats. The production meets people who were conned out of tens of thousands of pounds and who were dumped as soon as their new lover arrived in the UK. What is it about the sun and sea that causes people to drop their guard in such a way?
