Channel 4 commissions new property format from Crackit

Crackit Productions is to make a new Channel 4 feel-good property make-over show, You Deserve This House,  fronted by Amanda Lamb.
 
The series of forty hour-long shows was commissioned by Helen Warner, Channel 4’s former head of daytime. It will be executive produced by Elaine Hackett from Crackit, which is also behind Fat Fighters and The Ugly Face of Beauty.

In each episode, a deserving person or couple will be taken away for the weekend, while a makeover team – including people the homeowner has helped over the years – will have just 48 hours to transform their house. This is their chance to say thank you.

The format delivers transformations, emotional backstories, makeover advice and a double reveal.

The series will air from March, Monday to Friday, in Channel 4’s recently launched 11am daytime slot. It builds on the channel’s recent success in this slot with such shows as Phil Spencer: Secret Agent and The Renovation Game.

Elaine Hackett, creative director at Crackit Productions, said: “It's a humbling experience to see people turn out in all conditions, to work on homes in the pouring rain and bitter cold, to help surprise someone who has selflessly made a huge difference to their life. Those we're surprising do so much for others. They don't expect thanks or payment. They really are Britain's silent heroes.”


UKTV has also pre-invested in the series, which will air on Home, the UK’s only dedicated homes channel, later this year and Irish commercial broadcaster TV3 has also picked up the series ahead of its launch on Channel 4. Both deals were negotiated by 4Rights.

You Deserve This House has also been picked up for a six month window on the newly rebranded More4, which will focus more fully on popular factual and features from this January.
