Channel 4 has promoted Orpheus Warr to the role of chief technology officer, replacing CTO Kevin Burrows.

In his new role, Warr will be responsible for Channel 4’s overall technical strategy, architecture and R&D activity. Orpheus will also continue to be responsible for the technical aspects of Channel 4’s broadcast management, distribution and operations.

He will report to Keith Underwood, director of strategy & technology.

Also reporting to Underwood are Kevin Gallagher (chief information officer), Rachel Yendoll (head of content management). He also oversees C4’s corporate strategy.

Warr was previously Channel 4’s chief architect and head of technical Strategy.

Having joined Channel 4 in 2003, he has played a central role in developing a number of technology ‘firsts’ for the channel.

These included the launch of 4oD, Channel 4’s use of cloud-based platforms, and the technical enablement of Channel 4’s data strategy through the design of ‘big data’ solutions that are now being used to underpin viewer relationship management and advanced digital sales propositions.

Keith Underwood said: “Orf’s promotion to CTO is richly deserved. He is an incredible talent who has a very strong track record in developing ground-breaking technical solutions which enable business transformation.”

“As CTO, Orf has a central role in Channel 4’s on-going programme of investment in innovation.”

Warr takes up his new role immediately.
