The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) has appointed Alex Pumfrey as its Chief Executive.

Pumfrey was Chief Operating Officer of Digital UK from 2013 to 2016, responsible for the strategy and operations of the Freeview TV platform.

Between 2008 and 2012 she led the UK’s digital TV switchover programme. She has also worked in digital strategy at Channel 4 and was a partner at Maidthorn, advising on digital strategy to clients in media, arts and sports.

She will join the CTBF in October.

Pumfrey said: “Our industry is undergoing enormous change in the digital age.  The needs of those who work, or have worked, in this creative sector and of those young people who want to begin to develop their careers in it, are changing too. The charity is evolving to meet these needs and to provide easily accessible and appropriate support to talented and driven people, whilst helping them to sustain the success of our brilliant and world-leading film and TV industries."

CTBF President, John Pike, said, “Alex will be taking forward our transformative plans to make the charity an integral part of the moving image industry. She will be leading a new strategy to develop relevant UK-wide support services which extend our reach, are more accessible and meet the specific needs and challenges faced by those working in the industry today”.

She replaces D’Arcy Myers who has been the CTBF’s Interim CEO since September 2016.
