Channel 4’s latest campaigning programme Great British Property Scandal has had 100,000 signatures on its petition in the first week after being on air.
The petition, in the name of presenter George Clarke, demands new measures to get the nation's 350,000 long-term empty homes back into use.
Tiger Aspect worked with cross platform commissioner Adam Gee at Channel 4 and digital production company The Project Factory, which oversaw the design and build of the digital platforms, including an innovative app.
Using the app or by visiting the website, people can report an empty property in their area. Over three thousand were reported in just the first week. Once users have reported a property, from their phone or through the website, a letter automatically goes to the Empty Homes Officer in their local council and the report is followed up to make sure something gets done.
People have also shown support for the campaign on Facebook and Twitter. Besides trending on Twitter in the UK, George's Great British Property Scandal in the guise of @propertyscandal gained thousands of followers each night. And a number of interior designers, charter surveyors, design managers and builders have sent emails offering their services.
Ruth Pitt, executive producer at Tiger Aspect says: “The Project Factory managed all aspects of the digital/ multiplatform campaign, working very closely with Tiger Aspect. They were happy to have someone from their digital production embedded in our team, working in our office. It was a brilliant experience working with them.”
George Clarke' s two part series examined the underlying causes and investigated possible ways to bring these properties back into use.
