Buccaneer Media, the outfit launched a year ago by Tony Wood and Cineflix, has hired Ross McCarthy, a former executive producer and head of development at Outline Productions, to the newly created role of head of unscripted.

“Ross has a proven track record of creating fantastic factual entertainment formats with high-profile talent," says Wood. "I am really looking forward to mixing up his skills and background with the structured reality programming we’ve been developing.”
While at Outline, McCarthy led a successful development drive into factual entertainment formats, working on BBC Worldwide Channel’s first format commission Million Dollar Intern; Health Freaks and Fat Family Tree for Channel 4; Britain’s Big Wildlife Revival for BBC One; and Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food for BBC Two. Prior to Outline, McCarthy held senior development positions at Wall to Wall, ITV and Twenty Twenty.
McCarthy left Outline in December to lead a project to develop and extend one of BBC Entertainment and Worldwide’s brands. He will start at Buccaneer Media’s London office in March.
Buccaneer Media was established just under a year ago by producers Tony Wood and Cineflix Media. Wood has been responsible for shows including The Only Way is Essex, Hollyoaks, and Coronation Street, alongside North American shows including the scripted format House of Anubis.

With a range of projects in development and pre-production for broadcasters in the UK and North America, Buccaneer Media expects to announce new commissions shortly.

McCarthy says, "I have wanted to play in the structured reality space for some time, so the opportunity to work with the genre's godfather was too good to turn down."
