Buccaneer Media, the production company created by British drama producer Tony Wood has signed a deal to create a spin off TV series based upon the UK independent sci-fi movie Robot Overlords.

The agreement, signed with Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford’s Tempo Productions Limited who produced the movie, will see Buccaneer Media create a TV series set in a parallel universe to the original movie which features a group of survivors following the invasion of Earth by alien robots. Jon Wright, director of the original movie announced the adaptation at a press conference at the MCM London Comic Con event.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Piers Tempest and Jon Wright to reimagine ‘Robot Overlords’ for an international family TV audience. ‘Robot Overlords’ is a great British sci-fi brand in the tradition of classics such as ‘Quatermass’ and ‘Dr. Who’ - packed with special effects and rebellious excitement” said Buccaneer Media CEO Tony Wood.

“This series will really expand the canvas of the robot occupation and we are aiming to make an explosive show that the UK will be very proud of. Stay in your homes!” said Piers Tempest of Tempo Productions, producer of the ‘Robot Overlords’ movie.

The title and cast for the spin off TV series is yet to be announced.

The original ‘Robot Overlords’ movie cast included Gillian Anderson, Sir Ben Kingsley, Callan McAuliffe, James Tarpey and Ella Hunt. The movie was directed by Jon Wright, written by Jon Wright and Mark Stay and produced by Piers Tempest with special effects by Nvizible.

Buccaneer Media is a partnership with Canada’s Cineflix Media.
