British manufacturer of broadcast technology Snell Advanced Media has been acquired by Belden’s Grass Valley brand. The SAM name itself will be discontinued except on some specific product lines.

SAM’s operations will move under the Grass Valley umbrella in Montreal and Grass Valley president Tim Shoulders will be in charge of the combined company.

SAM was formed back in 2014 when Quantel, manufacturer of news and sports production and high end post production systems, acquired standards conversion kit manufacturer Snell.

The buyout of SAM by Belden follows a string of acquisitions in recent years that have included ThinkLogical, Softel, and Grass Valley.

In a statement, Grass Valley president, Tim Shoulders, said: “Adding SAM’s employees and products to the Grass Valley family extends Grass Valley’s global reach, makes us more agile, and provides even more domain expertise to enhance Grass Valley’s industry-leading solutions. Our customers face competition and uncertainty like never before. This transaction will help them navigate the technology options available to them, with fewer concerns around interoperability and deployment complexity, while providing them greater access to the innovators developing the solutions of tomorrow.”
