Newly-launched independent production group Boom Pictures has announced its first deal with a move into comedy, securing Graham Linehan’s label Delightful Industries.

Boom Pictures has signed writer, creator and director Graham Linehan  (The IT Crowd, Father Ted, Black Books) to develop and produce comedy programmes.  Boom Pictures has also recruited comedy director and producer Richard Boden as director of Programmes for Delightful.

The announcement is the first step in Boom Pictures’ strategic vision to partner with leading creative talent and independent production companies.

Executive chairwoman of Boom Pictures, Lorraine Heggessey said: “I can’t think of a better first signing for Boom Pictures. This is precisely the kind of talent that we’re looking to attract and support.”

Linehan wrote for Harry Enfield and The Fast Show and co-wrote Big Train and the cult satirical documentary series Brass Eye. Most recently he has been responsible for the stage adaptation of The Lady Killers.

Richard Boden’s credits include Blackadder Goes Forth, as well as ITV’s The Sketch Show and two series of The IT Crowd which he produced and directed alongside Linehan. He also produced Life of Riley for BBC and directed Watson and Oliver for BBC Two.

Boden said: “I am thrilled to be joining Lorraine at Boom Pictures, and to continue my close working relationship with Graham. Together we aim to develop new comedy talent through Delightful Industries as well as continue with Graham's individual projects."

Lorraine Heggessey worked with both Linehan and Boden during her five-year tenure as the chief executive officer of Talkback Thames.

The announcement comes less than a week after the official launch of Boom Pictures, a new independent production group established following the management buy-out of Boomerang Plus.
Supporting major talent is a priority for Boom Pictures as it looks to work with leading creatives as well as the kind of independent TV companies who would benefit from additional investment and the expertise of senior industry executives to help them achieve their full potential.
