Blakeway Productions has won a direct commission from China’s state broadcaster CCTV2 to produce The Secrets of Branding, an eight part documentary series which takes an in-depth look at the stories behind some of the world’s leading brands.

The Secrets of Branding was commissioned by deputy director Mr. Li Yong at CCTV, with Fiona Stourton (executive producer), Joanna Bartholomew and Matt Hill (series producers) for Blakeway.

The series features over thirty of the world’s top brands, including Gucci, Disney, Burberry, Lamborghini and Dyson, and reveals the key components for building a global brand.

Blakeway Productions was granted exclusive behind-the-scenes access to many of the brands featured. The series includes interviews with globally-recognised leading executives behind the companies’ accomplishments, such as inventor James Dyson (pictured), Starbucks cep Howard Schultz and former Burberry ceo Angela Ahrendts, who is credited with reviving the fortunes of the British fashion house.

The series gives an insight into the world of retail, motoring, fashion, technology and the drinks brands, sharing their secrets of persistence during success and times of failure, as well as exploring how big businesses work with governments, flourish in overseas markets and weather the changing economic climate.

Fiona Stourton, creative director, Ten Alps TV, says: “it is a real coup for a UK producer and a testament to Blakeway’s reputation for award-winning and entertaining factual programming.”
BBC Worldwide is the global distributor.
Suzanne McKenna, head of science, history and documentaries at BBC Worldwide, added: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting project having grown strong working relationships with both CCTV and Ten Alps over the years. This series brings together a hugely talented and respected producer with a key co-producer.”

Blakeway, a Ten Alps company, recently produced Lucian Freud – Painted Life for BBC2 and Smithsonian Freud’s Naked Truths (Emmy nominated), as well as Queen Victoria's Children also for BBC2, and the BBC’s official 90 minute obituary of Lady Thatcher, Margaret Thatcher: Prime Minister, which was transmitted on the day of her death.

Blakeway’s current affairs output has been growing rapidly with  productions for Channel 4’s investigative strand Dispatches, including Plebs, Lies and Videotape, Nuclear War Games and Murdoch, Cameron and the £8 Billion Deal.  BBC’s Panorama, Secrets of Britain’s Sharia Councils and a 60 minute documentary for BBC2, Frank Gardner’s Return to Saudi Arabia.
