Betty to produce Bear Grylls show for Chinese market

Betty has teamed up with China’s Shanghai Media Group (SMG) to produce new adventure series Survivor Games fronted by Bear Grylls which will air across China on Dragon TV. 

The 12x90-min series is co-produced with Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, Bear Grylls Ventures (BGV) and SMG production arm DocuChina.

Survivor Games will feature eight celebrities as they battle to survive 12 days in the wild tackling all that the jungle and Bear can throw at them.

This is the first time betty and BGV have worked on a TV show for the Chinese market.

Grylls will present the series and his local advisor and co-presenter on screen will be Jiang Changjian, a professor at China’s FuDan University and TV personality. 

Along with Grylls, Survivor Games will be executive produced by Delbert Shoopman (BGV), Tom Sheahan (betty), and Vikram Channa (Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific).
Neil Smith, joint managing director, betty, said: "China is the biggest and most exciting emerging market in the TV world and we're delighted to be working on our first project there with our good friends at BGV."

The format of the show will be co-created by Yunji Media, a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group, and Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, and the show will be distributed in overseas markets via Discovery’s Studios Group.

Survivor Games is a Yunji Media, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, betty, BGV and Shanghai Oriental Pearl Media production for Dragon TV.
