12 Yard Productions, the ITV Studios-owned indie, has been commissioned by BBC One to produce pilot Mrs Brown’s Celebrities, a  Saturday night game show. It will be hosted by comedian Brendan O’Carroll as Irish mother Mrs Brown, the character from his BAFTA award-winning comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys.

The studio format sees two contestants do battle in a comedy quiz aided by five celebrities from the worlds of sport, music, television and film. After a series of light-hearted questions, the winning contestant goes on to play an end game in which they must use the celebrities’ combined brainpower to try to win a series of prizes.

12 Yard is making a 40-minute non-broadcast pilot, with a view to producing a full series for transmission in 2013.

Mrs Brown’s Celebrities was commissioned by Danny Cohen controller BBC One, Mark Linsey, controller, BBC Entertainment Commissioning and Alan Tyler, executive editor, BBC Entertainment Commissioning.

“Mrs Brown is one of the crown jewels of BBC Comedy," says Tyler . "We are delighted that she is welcoming some famous faces into the family and we are equally thrilled that she is continuing to make herself at home on BBC One.”
