BBC Worldwide takes stake in new indie Mighty

Indie executive Lynn Sutcliffe and format creator Hugh Rycroft have teamed up to launch new entertainment outfit Mighty Productions.

BBC Worldwide has taken a 25% stake in the new venture and as part of the deal will have global distribution rights to all programmes developed by Mighty during an initial five-year output agreement.

Sutcliffe and Rycroft, who become Managing Director and Creative Director respectively, have collaborated on several projects over the years, including ITV quiz format Tipping Point, which they worked on together whilst Sutcliffe was Head of Development at RDF Television.

Between them, they have over 40 years’ experience in the TV industry.

Sutcliffe began her TV career at BBC where she worked for seven years, and developed ideas such as The Weakest Link, Friends Like These and Dog Eat Dog. As an International Development Executive for the BBC she also secured the rights to The Apprentice and Dragons Den. She was previously Director of Development at CPL, where commissions included brand new 25-part series Decimate (BBC One) which is currently on air, Married at First Sight (C4),The Day the Cash Came (BBC One) and Who Repairs Wins (UKTV)

Rycroft began his career writing for radio and devising panel games for the medium. He then began creating his own TV formats, including Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (BBC Two), The Sack Race (BBC Two/CBS), and celebrity quiz School’s Out (BBC One).

Mighty is already developing several projects with a slate ranging from daytime quiz formats to shiny-floor extravaganzas.
