Argonon acquires Windfall Films

Production group Argonon has acquired specialist factual indie Windfall Films, the producers behind The Murder Trial and Inside Nature’s Giants.

The deal sees Argonon wholly acquire Windfall Films for an undisclosed sum. 

David Dugan, CEO and co-founder of Windfall Films joins the board of Argonon, and along with fellow directors Ian Duncan, Carlo Massarella and Krisina Obradovic, takes a stake in the group. 

The highly regarded Windfall was voted one of the top ten indies in the UK in 2013, according to Televisual’s Production 100 Peer Poll. The company reported a turnover of £9.3m for the Production 100 survey.

Argonon posted a turnover of £25m in the Production 100. The indpendent global production group, run by James Burstall, has bases in London, New York and Vancouver.

Windfall’s slate includes  series such as The Murder Trial (Channel 4); D-Day: As It Happens (Channel 4); Inside Nature’s Giants (Channel 4); Monster Moves (Channel 5), Easter Eggs Live (Channel 4) and Foxes Live: Wild in the City (Channel 4). Their international hits include Big Bigger Biggest (National Geographic) and Strip the City (Discovery Channel).

James Burstall, CEO of Argonon said:  “Argonon will offer Windfall the creative licence and international expertise, within a collaborative and supportive environment, to achieve their international growth ambitions, with a major focus on the North American market. This deal marks the halfway point in Argonon’s five year business plan and we are on target to achieve our goal of reaching a group turnover of £100m in 2016.”

David Dugan, chairman and co-founder of Windfalls Films, said:  “This deal with Argonon offers an unusual and exciting opportunity for Windfall. Windfall Films will continue to operate from their Shoreditch headquarters but will be able to make use of Argonon’s infrastructure, which includes business, finance and production resources.  

The Windfall acquisition is Argonon’s biggest deal since launching in 2011. 

Argonon’s group of indies includes factual and factual entertainment producer Leopard Films;  entertainment producer Remedy Productions; popular factual producer Transparent Television; international documentary-making joint venture BriteSpark Films; drama producer Leopardrama; New-York based lifestyle and reality producer Leopard USA; Vancouver-based joint venture Remedy Canada and multi-platform drama company Blacklisted Films.
