Oxjam is a music festival made up of hundreds of events around the UK in October. The jewels in the Oxjam crown are the Oxjam Takeovers, organised by teams of volunteers, all in aid of Oxfam.
Led by your Takeover Manager, you will work as part of a team of talented volunteers to organise a series of fundraising events, culminating in your Takeover in October. Your Takeover will be a multi-venue music event in your local area, and will include dozens of bands playing in up to 6 venues, accessed by the purchase of one wristband.
a) Led by your team’s manager and working within a core team of volunteers you will help to deliver the Takeover event for your town/city. This event will take place across multiple venues on a single day, and will coordinate with events across the country on the same weekend in October. It must keep to the Takeover model as defined by Oxjam, but beyond that it’s up to you and team to create something incredible.
b) Design a marketing strategy for your team’s fundraising activities and Takeover. Monitor progress to ensure marketing is timely and effective
c) Recruit and lead a team of volunteers to help promote your team’s event through a number of different channels (e.g. flyering, Facebook etc)
d) Design and organise innovative marketing and promotional strategies and stunts to promote event
e) Write and sell-in press releases
f) Manage online social networking groups
g) Work with Fundraising Co-ordinator to ensure that the team’s fundraising activities are well promoted, and are effectively used to promote other events,
a) An understanding of marketing and event promotion (experience desirable)
b) Excellent communication skills, particularly written
c) Innovative and creative approach
d) Outstanding organisation skills, with experience of managing projects to deadlines
e) Good knowledge of your local music scene and regional media
f) The ability to work independently and under your own steam – support will be provided by your Takeover Manager and Oxfam but it is important that you feel confident coordinating your event’s promotion and talking to the press
g) A passion for fighting poverty
