Now in its third year, the Televisual Intelligent Factual Festival (IF’08) is bigger and better than ever before.
Televisual has brought together the biggest names and leading executives from across the UK factual TV community for a series of informed and insightful debates in the panel seminars interlinked with one-on-one interviews with key executives (Richard Klein, Hamish Mykura and Stephen Lambert).
The Intelligent Factual Festival is sharply focused on how to succeed within the factual programme making business. All of the sessions are geared towards revelatory insight on how to pitch, fund and create factual content that succeeds in today’s televisual world and for the future. We’ll hear from channel commissioners – across all documentary genres as well as including digital channels and new media - about the kind of shows they are looking for. There’s also best practice on: how to make factual TV win ratings; the growing opportunities in digital and multiplatform TV and where the money is; how to keep observational and drama documentaries thriving; how to make content for cinema release; and broader panel discussion about the future for factual television. All of the interviews and sessions are hosted by the most informed chairs in the business with the participation of the very cream of the factual television establishment.
New content for 2008
This year there are more sessions than in past years and with an even sharper business focus on finding alternative routes to market – be it new media or digital channel commissions, alternative ways of raising finance or how to make TV for the web. While at the same time, the festival remains true to its roots by exploring beyond the sound bite with robust and revealing discourse and the strongest chairs and interviewers working in the media space.
New venue for 2008
We’ve moved to The Arts Club (still in London W1) this year and now have a beautiful on site garden area for relaxing and socializing between sessions as well as a grand drawing room for paid delegates’ complimentary coffees, teas, soft drinks and lunchtime club sandwiches. There are also free drinks for paid delegates on Wednesday evening, running with the (also new) 10 x 10 evening.
Same competitive rates
What hasn’t changed is the extraordinarily keen delegate rate held at £249 (plus VAT) for both days. Not forgetting that this is the only central London event for documentary makers and that the entrance fee includes free refreshments, lunch and even a drinks reception on the first evening.
New 10 x 10 evening
A free workshop run by the Documentary Filmmakers Group (DFG) in collaboration with the North American organization, Doculink, it provides the opportunity for filmmakers to screen up to ten minutes of their work-in-progress and receive ten minutes of directed feedback from the audience. The workshop has been running in London on a monthly basis since June 2007 and is coming to the Intelligent Factual Festival for a special one-off edition. You can find out more and how to book for this session within the “Production Workshop” section on the menu bar.
