BULLDOGS AWARDS 2009

Back in March we asked our readers to get voting for the TV programmes, companies and channels they rated most highly in the annual Televisual Bulldogs Awards. By post and online their votes poured in, resulting in the winners we’ve detailed here.

Unlike other television awards, the Televisual Bulldogs leave it up to the whole production community to decide what the best programmes of 2008 were, not just a small panel of the great and the good. For each category, the Bulldogs suggest a few stand-out shows (or indies or channels) that voters might like to choose as a way of getting the ball rolling, but they can vote for anything they choose.

Televisual will soon be holding a gala dinner for the winners. At that dinner we’ll also be awarding the Best In Show prize. This award goes to the programme that gained the most votes of all. Details will be published in the June issue of Televisual and online here.

But it’s not just the programme-makers who are the winners in the Bulldog awards. To thank all those who voted for their favourite programmes of 2008, we put all their names into a hat and pulled out a few lucky ones who’ll be receiving the fantastic prizes detailed here.

And the Bulldogs aren’t just celebrated today and forgotten tomorrow. All the results will remain here until the awards come back around next year, standing as a reminder of the outstanding British television of 2008.

A special thanks to our sponsors without whom the Bulldogs would not be possible. And thanks also to Artem for designing and sculpting our new Bulldog Awards. Our thanks also go to Sony and Bose for supplying such fabulous voter prizes.
