BULLDOGS AWARDS 2008
INDIE OF THE YEAR
Kudos

Winner

Kudos

Kudos is one of the few British independents that manages to pump out high concept returnable dramas year after year. The enormous success of MI5 drama Spooks, now gearing up for its seventh season on BBC1 was proved to be in no way a fluke as the company launched the equally successful, slick and returnable conman drama Hustle. Add to that the strange genius of Life on Mars (that itself wins the Bulldog for best drama series) and now the Life on Mars follow up Ashes to Ashes, and it’s hard to see where Kudos has put a foot wrong in recent times. 2007 was also the year that the company found itself under new ownership, joining the indie consolidation race after being bought by Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine in a deal thought to be worth around £35m. The joint managing directors are Stephen Garrett and Jane Featherstone, the commercial director is Daniel Isaacs and the director of drama is Simon Crawford-Collins.

RUNNERS UP
Two Four

2nd

Twofour

This regional powerhouse continues to go from strength to strength. Traditionally based very much in factual TV with formats like Cruise With Stelios and The Hotel Inspector, Twofour is currently pushing into new genres like drama and light entertainment, Are You Smarter Than a Ten Year Old? for Sky One being an early LE show off the blocks. The company also houses a sizeable corporate production arm as well as a successful digital offshoot.

Objective Productions

3rd

Objective Productions

Having recently been acquired for a very substantial amount by All3media, the future is certainly financially rosy for Objective and its (former) owners and (current) managers Andrew O’Connor and Michael Vine. After starting out as a magic show specialist (the company makes illusionist Derren Brown’s various shows) it has branched out into traditionally difficult to conquer territories, notably comedy, bringing Peep Show and Star Stories to the screen along with popular returnable series like The Real Hustle.
