Peep Show

April, Channel 4, (Objective Productions)

The complexities of shooting this innovative Channel 4 sitcom from the alternative points of view of the main protagonists makes the job of editing it all together into a coherent whole all that more difficult. In any sitcom, editing plays a crucial role in making the audience laugh out loud and on such a successful, and complex, long runner as Peep Show it fulfils that role brilliantly. 2007 saw series four of the show going out with much of the action surrounding Mark’s impending marriage to long term crush Sophie while the two main characters stumble into increasingly excruciating situations - like accidentally killing and eating someone’s pet dog. The show’s success saw series five commissioned before this one had even gone out and that fifth season is now on air. The editing was by Mark Everson. The writers on the show are Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain. The executive producer is Andrew O’Connor.

Life on Mars 2

February, BBC 1, (Kudos)

The second and final series of the time travelling cop drama was a firm favourite of the viewers. The show demanded much from its editors to keep the car chases, punch ups and the fair smattering of comedic moments as fun as they were back in The Sweeney. The editors on the second season included Sarah Brewerton, Jeremy Strachan, Liana Del Giudice and John Gow. It was directed by SJ Clarkson, Richard Clark and Andrew Gunn and the producer was Cameron Roach.

Hustle

April, BBC1, (Kudos)

Kudos’s superslick conman drama demands the highest standards from its production team and nowhere more so than in the edit suite. Hustle is both a highly polished and extremely energetic show with the action moving at a breathtaking pace. So its editing has to keep up with the fast moves and quick changes the conmen make as they dupe the marks. Dan Preston and Jamie Trevill were part of that editing team. Jane Featherstone and Simon Crawford Collins were exec producers.
