Who Do You Think You Are?
BBC1, Wall to Wall
British geneaology documentary series Who Do You Think You Are? explores the family tree of celebrities as they trace their past. Its popularity hasn’t faltered since it first hit the screen in 2004 and is regularly held up as the example of how to take a possibly dry specialist factual genre like history and fire it, entertainingly and intelligently, into the heart of primetime. It returned for a fifth series in 2008 and celebrity guests who had their family histories uncovered included Patsy Kensit, whose late father was an associate of the Kray Twins, Jodie Kidd, who found her family had been among the earliest European settlers in the USA and Boris Johnson who discovered more about his Turkish roots and that his great grandfather was also a famous journalist and politician. Executive producer on the series was Maxine Watson.
